SNOW LOG

Vail Resorts is reporting 23″ in the last 3 days.  Up top in places, yes, there is 23″ including parts of the back bowls. Locals that are calling VRI “liars” for their 2 reports of 12″ on Tuesday and 11″ on Wednesday need to lighten up.  There are wind blown areas on the hill – that is for certain.  And from personal experience, yes, not all areas of the mountain got 23″.  This IS the Rockies and conditions are variable.  But, I am drinking too much of the “Vail Resorts Kool-Aid” when I believe that the company is being truthful with their snow report from Mid Vail?  Do you really think someone on the VRI payroll is packing snow around the depth camera to lie to customers?   Personally, I don’t think so.  We are just becoming spoiled locals who need to be mad at “the Man” because our favorite stash didn’t see all 23″.  Get happy – the snow conditions are superb.

Fall in Vail

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of the year to visit Vail. If you time your arrival just right, you can witness the blazing glory of whole mountainsides full of aspen turning to gold. But there is a lot to do in Vail Valley besides enjoying the breathtaking nature show. September and October will be highlighted by uniquely themed events and activities like Vail Oktoberfest, Vail Automotive Classic and Vail Restaurant Month. There are so many reasons to visit Vail this Fall.

Elite athletes, canine athletes and spectators are gathering in Vail for TEVA MOUNTAIN GAMES June 3 – 6, 2010.  The excitement is building as cars and vans laden with kayaks, bikes, running & fishing gear and dogs flow into Vail in anticipation of four days of whitewater, mountain bike, trail running, bouldering and dock dog competition.  The weather has cooperated with warm sunny days predicted and great whitewater conditions as rivers are running high.  TEVA heralds the start of summer Vail and provides great opportunity for spectators to see 8 exhilarating sports and 24 disciplines throughout the Town of Vail and along Gore Creek & Eagle River.  There’s way too much to cover here so go to tevamountaingames.com for a complete rundown and schedule.  Evergreen Lodge is proud to be a Vail hotel sponsor for this great event.  Come join in the fun!

I really enjoy Vail’s spring guests!

I had a wonderful opportunity to meet a couple of guests who were taking advantage of the services and expertise at Steadman Clinic, Vail Valley Medical Center and Howard Head Sports Medicine Center next door to the Evergreen Lodge.  Although they know they have weeks and months of hard work ahead of them to get back to the activities they love, they were upbeat and enthusiastic about their experience here.  I am fortunate to have met them as their enthusiasm was infectious – I’m thankful they chose Evergreen Lodge as their Vail hotel – otherwise I would never have shared a conversation with such fun and forward thinking guests!   Oh, they loved the $5 menu too.

Spring brings…… snow

Yes, it is snowing.  Feet, not just inches.  But that is good news for kayakers, fishermen, hikers and everyone who will be enjoying summer in Vail.  TEVA mountain games are just around the corner, the water should be high and boiling – adds to the excitement.  The SHAKLEE RACE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT scheduled for the first weekend in May has been rescheduled for June 12 – hoping for more summery weather.  Entries are still open so contact Vail Recreation District at VRD sports: 970-390-8531 if you plan to come.

While it is snowing and blowing outside folks are indoors honing their pool skills on the regulation size billiards tables in Altitude Billiards & Sports Club.  The Club will be open every day during the off season so come on in.  Zack is going on vacation soon so be sure to stop by and wish him well on his international adventure.  While Zack is gone Andy and Kara will keep everyone entertained.  They are excited about the off season menu in the bar where every item is $5 or less!  Can’t beat that!

Altitude Billiards & Sports Club is located in Evergreen Lodge,  the most affordable in-town Vail hotel, located adjacent to Dobson Arena.  The pool is open because we really do believe in spring.
